“Made in England” and other peculiarities

I found a new site with promising Victorian clues. An old jar with “Made in England” written on the bottom and some unusual other older things.

Ripingille’s Albion Lamp & Stove Patent

This was a very unusual find for me, I sort of instantly recognised it as the lamp window from a train lamp or similar. Here’s what it might have looked like: https://www.flintsauctions.com/auction/lot/435-a-rippingilles-patent-stove-by-the-albion-lamp-company/?lot=29433&sd=1

Alexander Rippingille (d. 1895) founded a lamp company in Aston, Birmingham, about 1875: this became the Albion Lamp Company by about 1888. By this time another member of the family, Frank Rippingille, had founded another patent stove company – also in Aston- and the two appear to have been in competition until Frank Rippingille’s firm closed in 1903.

This would have been the little porthole window to look through to see the flame. I found both bits of the glass and they fit well. In the link to the auctioned one, you can see how small it looks on the item.

Star Find ⭐️

“Made in England” jar

You might be wondering why a cracked glass is my star find? Well it was the first thing I found in a new location which got me excited and it’s not often you see something made in England these days.

I’m still trying to find out where it’s from.

Jam jar/preserve jar fragment

I’ve come to learn these are jam jars. I really like the ridged finish.

Eiffel Tower Fruit Juices fragment

These are instantly recognisable now to me. Really nice aqua glass colour, shame it was broken.

Old boots

Kind of creepy to find these to be honest as I’ve never come across more personal items. Not sure how old these are but they’ve been in the ground a long time.
