A walk from Stoke Park to Gloucester Road

I did a winter version of this walk about 2 years ago so wanted to do it again today before the weather turns. I used suncream on my ankles to repel any ticks and bugs as I was walking through short grass but long in places. The walk goes from UWE, through Stoke Park and to Bishopston via Ashley Road. I’ve calculated the walk to be 4.10 miles.

Start of the walk opposite UWE entrance
Passing down the older footpath – a lot of cyclists were using the road around the quiet housing estate
Arriving at a nice playground just before the woods.
Quite overgrown walk down to the woods from the playground.
Eventually arriving at the clocktower

The vista of trees opposite the clocktower.

Plaque written on the clocktower above the door.

Next to this, another plaque commemorating the wife of the reverend, Rosa Gladys Burden.

The view from the clocktower towards the estate.

Jurassic park or Stoke park?

I walked back to the start of the wooded footpath – you are here in red on the right hand side. I walked down the bottom right yellow path, past duchess pond and to the Tomb of the Horati.

Road tunnel underneath the M32.

The road tunnel is to my left so this walk runs alongside the M32. A bit further up on the right is a small gate, leading to Duchess pond which is a fishing pond.

Beautiful far-reaching view looking back towards Stoke Park Estate. The path was a lot steeper than I thought.

The view from the other side. To my left was the location of the Horati tomb – I was thinking there would be a bit more to see but I only spotted a small info sign at the edge of the long grass. I didn’t want to walk through it incase of ticks so I thought I’d look online.

I could see really old looking buildings across towards Fishponds direction- the buildings reminded me of the ones I’d seen in Amsterdam near the botanical gardens.

Lush greenery and endless forests from up here. Reminiscent to me of Berlin or Amsterdam in the summer.

With the BT Tower behind me, another tower visible in the distance – St Michaels Hospital chimney and Goldney building on Park Street.

Round the other side I saw this old wall and roof – looked abandoned

An old ornately carved stone gatepost.
Would make a great toboggan hill in the winter.

Entering the path to St Werbughs city farm.
